Hong Kong News-Expo, a beacon of light in troubled times
Yesterday, I took my MA students to Hong Kong News-Expo for an amazing on-site learning experience. Housed in a two-storey heritage building, the museum offers a concise but fascinating journey through more than 100 years of news media and journalism in Hong Kong, through photos and multi-media exhibits.
Really pleased to have CK Lau, a veteran journalist, to guide us with his insights on how news media have covered the key events impacting Hong Kong and China.
It is interesting to note that founders of News-Expo drew the inspiration from Newseum, a much bigger and much more influential museum dedicated to news and journalism in Washington DC, which I had the pleasure to visit but which was unfortunately closed due to funding issues at the end of 2019.
Kudos to Hong Kong for keeping this beacon of light in trouble times.
